Selling 130 Hereford Bulls
and 30 Angus Bulls
Each bull has been fertility-tested and evaluated prior to the sale and
administered Dectomax. Truman Smith, DVM, Mesa Vista Animal Hospital, Raton,
NM, has provided services for Harper for several years and has personal
knowledge of the general health and condition of our herd. Please feel free
to ask him any questions relating to his services to our herd; you can
expect straight answers from him. These animals will meet all requirements
for shipment by us anywhere in the U.S. We believe they qualify for other
destinations depending on their testing requirements.
All bulls recently underwent PAP (Pulmonary Artery
Pressure) tests administered by Tim Holt, DVM, of Colorado State University,
Fort Collins, CO. It has been established that a definite correlation exists
between high-pressure reading under this test and the propensity for
incidence of brisket disease, both in the tested animal, and its offspring.
Brisket disease is one of the most serious problems in high altitude
mountain grazing operations, and we were among the first registered
operations to institute testing on every bull we sell in an effort to assist
our buyers in eradicating this problem. Bulls with a PAP measurement of 50
or below are guaranteed against brisket disease at any elevation. Bulls with
a PAP measurement of 51 or above are guaranteed against brisket disease at
elevations of 5,500 feet or below. Please make your purchases accordingly.
Final weights and PAP measurements of sale bulls will be available day of
